This bust is of Lord Trent, who is usually known of Jesse Boot, the founder of Boots the Chemist; a leading drugs company & retailer. The statue is situated at the main entrance to Highfields park, with the university's Portland Building in the background. As a philanthropist, Jesse bought the land for the park to be created in the 1920's.

The photograph is good. It shows some of the fine patina. The commentary is interesting too.

Interesting fact about that statue: he's looking towards the Boots site in Beeston, which explains why the inscription says "Before him lies a monument to his industry".
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's actually the Trent Building in the background, not the Portland Building (which is off to the right of that photo).
