
You might think that these two cherubs are part of the facade of say a theatre. Well you'd be wrong. They are actually high up on the front of a department store called Debenhams. Before they took over, the shop belonged to another department store called Griffin & Spalding.
When I took the photo, I didn't realise that there was netting all over the building, which I guess is to keep pigeons away from the window sills.
The netting gives an interesting grid effect to the photo but it's hardly distinguishable - my eyes were first drawn to the beautiful facade. I really enjoy architectural details such as this one. I find reassuring to think that people were prepared to spend time/money on such things...
