Skateaway - 2
Here's another shot from our walk yesterday around the Winter Wonderland in the Old Market Square.
There still weren't that many skaters on the rink. With the big smile on her face, this girl was certainly having a great time, especially as she just about had it all to herself.
She was whizzing around with her blonde hair flowing and her Christmas cardie flapping in the breeze. I've seen lots of Christmas jumpers, but never a cardigan. Maybe she's a trendsetter.

All Fall Down
Thirty years ago with a flash of purple on white, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean skated into history with straight 6's at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, with their now famous Bolero routine.
History almost repeated itself today as around 100 people turned up in the Old Market Square at lunchtime to recreate the final couple of movements of the ice dance, and without Ravel's music to dance to.
The whole thing was filmed by Notts TV, the counties new television station that starts broadcasting next month.
Amazingly enough, the real Torvill & Dean mage a guest appearance at the very end, with a very bemused look on their faces as they look at all the inert bodies lying on the granite floor.
They are in town for the next couple of days, as they are appearing in Dancing on Ice at the National Ice Centre.

Skating On The Thin Ice Of Life
A classic Jethro Tull song title introduces todays photo. The Christmas skating rink in the Square finished on Sunday & this week the workmen have spent every day dismantling the rink, changing room & spectator stand. I have no idea how they got rid of the ice. Perhaps they chopped it up into cubes and sold it to all the local pubs and clubs!

No Skidding!
Yesterday was another awful day, full of rain and cold winds. The ice rink was deserted, as people either stayed in their offices, or just popped to the shops. So this guy on his ice smoothing machine had the whole of the rink to himself. I don't know if he was actually working, or just doing something to pass the boredom.

Skating In The Square
As I mentioned yesterday, a large ice rink has been set up in the Old Market Square. It will be there until the middle of January and costs £7.00 for 45 minutes.
Here's a shot of some skaters giving it a go. This loving couple look devoted to each other as he holds his girlfriends' hand as he leads her round the link. Either that, or he's stopping her from falling over!
