It's Advertising, But Not As We Know It

Signs Of Future Past

Back in the 'good old days' before television, advertising signs used to be colourful and made of tin. You used to see them everywhere screwed to shop walls etc. Whenever they're seen, people feel a certain nostalgia for those more simpler times. This owner of this Ross on Wye seems to share this view, from the number of signs displayed on the front of his store.

They've Got A Ticket To Ride

Another corrupted Beatles song I know, but it seems so apt for this photo. Believe it or not, this bus is carrying passengers. I don't know how they can see out of the windows, as they have all been covered up by this giant advertisement for a finance company. It must have cost the company a lot of money to completely cover the bus, both in having the transfer created and renting the ad space.
I wonder if it was a deal on wheels?

Bill Posters Will Be Prosecuted

'Only if they can catch him' is what people usually write below such signs! But here's a real bill poster, who won't be sent to court. It amazes me how they manage to remember which order to put the parts of the advertising hoarding up in. Perhaps they are numbered.

Has anyone seen posters put up in the wrong order?

Clothes on Wheels

Here's the back of another local bus, this time advertising a city centre clothes store. The opening day of this particular shop appeared here a few months ago, when they had some stilt walkers standing outside.

I've had a comment from someone who used to live in Nottingham, that I don't always give the location details of my photos. To keep all my viewers happy, this one was taken on Lower Parliament Street, just up from the Victoria Centre.

The Yellow Peril

The other day I placed a photo of a Watson Fothergil building with a row of shops underneath, that advertised themselves in a way that was in keeping with the style of the building. That cannot really be said about how this company promotes itself. Canary Yellow everywhere! I bet helicopter pilots can see this building as they fly across the city at night.
