Foor For Thought

As there are so many eating places in the city centre, it's often difficult to know what to choose, as there is so much on offer. Italian, Spanish, French, pizzas, pies, burgers, fish & chips. Nottingham has it all.

This woman is studying the menu of the Cock & Hoop pub in the Lace Market, situated opposite the Galleries of Justice.

The pub is linked to the hotel next door, and both have been closed for a while, as the hotel closed for some reason.

But a new owner has been found, and so both businesses have reopened.  But they might have finished painting the door before they did.

Dead Men Can't Talk

The Kray Twins were a couple of evil criminals from the East End of London that were the leading gangland thugs of the 1950s and 60s. They murdered and threatened people, while trying to live a glamorous lifestyle by trying to rub shoulders with the rich and famous of the day.

But their deadly empire came to an end and they were sent to prison for 30 years in 1969. Ronnie Died in 1995, and Reggie in 2000.

The Galleries of Justice presently have a small exhibition about their life, trial and death. The exhibition contains photos, items and documents about the twins who were born in October 1933. They also have a soundtrack accompanying the exhibition, containing news reports and music of the day. Whilst I was there, The Rolling Stones came on with Jumping Jack Flash.

The Point Of No Return

I had a bit of good news via Twitter the other day. The Galleries of Justice contacted me to say that I had won one of their mugs for following them on Twitter, as they were running a competition for the next 3 people to follow them would get a mug. And fortunately, I was one of them.

They asked for my address, so they could send it out to me. I suggested that I could collect it in person. They also said that my photography was amazing and invited me to have a look round and see what I could find to photograph.

So here's a couple of the results. The first is a board listing the rules of the prison, with the reminder of what might happen to them if they were not going to be transported to Australia.

Below is the typical of the conditions that the prisoners found themselves in once behind bars. I think the rats had a better life. At least they found themselves a way out.

It is a very good attraction, and the actor led tours are amusing and informative. Apparently it is the only one of its kind in Europe, and so should be on the 'to do' list of every visitor to our fair city.  It has been suggested that the site is the most haunted in England. This is not surprising, considering the number of people that must have died there. Not including all those that were hanged.
