A photo a day from the famous East Midlands city, its surroundings, and wherever the photographic journey takes me.

Supermoon
There has been a lot of publicity recently about the moon being the closest to the Earth for a long time. In fact the next time won't be for another sixty years or so.
It's been nicknamed the 'Supermoon'.
Due to the skies being cloudy over the weekend, I didn't get the opportunity of getting a night time shot, but the moon was still visible early this morning, so I thought I would take a daytime one instead. Especially as the sun was out and it was a clear blue sky.

Spin Around The City
The theme for this month's theme day is 'revolution'.
Nottingham has had a few revolutionaries down the years; the Luddites, Robin Hood, and played a part in the English Civil War.
But i've gone for something a little different, in the giant Ferris Wheel that appeared in the Old Market Square earlier in the year.
I used a fish eye lens, to give it and even more round look. Incidentally, I didn't go on it, as I am scared of heights.

Beeston Castle
Well, the weather certainly has been a bit topsy-turvy today. This morning it was coldish, wet and generally a bit miserable.
There were reports of possible hailstones and even tornadoes, but thankfully all we got was rain. But by three o'clock it had stopped and the sun came out and warmed & dried everything.
Walking along the High Road, I noticed how lovely the clouds looked. Mainly wispy, and certainly a lot different from the ones earlier. Or should that be one, as the whole sky was a solid grey colour.
So here's a shot of the tower from Beeston's main church, as sadly Beeston doesn't have a castle. But if it did, I'd like it to look a bit like this.

Shades Of Autumn
Another bit of welcome autumn/winter sunshine today, so I took this photo of the castle, Castle Rock and the Brewhouse Museum from the grounds of the Brewhouse yard.

Glowing
Here's the Jury's Inn hotel down near the railway station, basking in the autumnal sun surrounded by an endless blue sky, occasionaly broken up by small wispy clouds.

Somewhere, Over The Rainbows, Way Up High
While we were outside this afternoon chatting with the plasterer, who had been here giving our new studio a new ceiling, we noticed that a rainbow had appeared overhead. Well two actually. Although the other one was a lot fainter.
"Ooh" said Matt the plasterer, "I've never seen a double rainbow before". I think I've only seen a couple before. Although I have seen lots of rainbows down the years. Some seem to last longer than others. This one hung about for about five minutes, before disappearing behind the next batch of black clouds, and yet another downpour of rain.

Yellow Fever
Well what a strange day it has been weatherwise. I woke up this morning to the ground being white again, as it had snowed a bit during the night, but it was lovely and sunny when I cycled home tonight. And in daylight too.
So I thought I would have a trundle through Highfields, to see if there were any blossom appearing on the trees, or any flowers coming out.
Although the trees were still bare, I saw this little 'golden host' of daffodils near to the lake. So I stopped and tried to take a photo or two. So I wonder if spring is really, at long last on its way?

A Mirrored Life
This is the new E-on building that is now open and occupied after a lengthy build last year.
For those that don't know, E-on is one of the UK's main power supply companies, and I think that this is their main HQ for the region, where most of the admin goes on.
Strangely enough, last weekend, a friend of mine was cajoled by one of the building's security staff for taking photos of the building, and was told that he needed a permit form the company to be able to take pictures of it. My friend Pete told the 'jobsworth' that he was perfectly entitled to photograph the building, as he was on public land, i.e, the pavement.
Pete wrote a formal complaint to the company about his treatment, and has since received an apology.
Fortunately or unfortunately I was not approached whilst I was taking my photographs. Probably because they didn't notice me.

Going Down South
I took a long train ride today down to Bristol. Just for the day. It took over three hours to get there, and then another three hours back. In fact I was sat on the train longer than I was sat in the office.
I had about half an hour for lunch, so I went in search of a sandwich and a drink. I then had a little walk around the area close to where the office that I was visiting was. Couldn't stray too far and get lost now could I?
Bristol has the River Avon running through it and I was pleased to discover that it was just a short walk from the office to reach a part of it. As I didn't have too long, I only managed to take a few shots like this one. It was lovely and sunny too, with a great blue sky. I wish I could have spent longer there to look around and see what else was on offer.

All Fire, No Spit!

For our last day in Woodhall Spa, we decided to visit Tattershall Castle, a National Trust property, about six miles from the small town.
The castle is quite amazing to look at and was restored during the early part of the 20th century. It originally dates from the 15th century.
It has six floors, and you get to see some great views of the Lincolnshire countryside from the battlements.
But what made it extra special today was that a Spitfire flew over the castle whilst we were there. The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is stationed at an airfield very close to the castle, and they all took off this afternoon to fly for an event in Lowestoft.
Besides the Spitfire, the Memorial Flight includes, a Lancaster bomber, a Hurricane and a Dakota. Unfortunately neither the Lancaster or Hurricane came out well, and it was an extra surprise to see the Dakota about fifteen minutes later.

November Theme Day - Mr Blue Sky
The title of a smash hit for the 1970's rock band ELO, introduces today's theme of the colour blue. I'm afraid I haven't been very creative this month, but as the sky recently has been very bright, with no clouds (unusual for England), I thought I'd show you this rare occurrence, as I know a lot of you always see clear blue skies every day.
Yes this is genuine sky & not a piece of coloured card!
Once again I couldn't find the list of all the other countries that are participating & due to time differences, some countries may not appear yet.
