A photo a day from the famous East Midlands city, its surroundings, and wherever the photographic journey takes me.

Fragility
I went to the opening of an exhibition tonight, that's only on for a few days at Waterstone's bookshop on Bridalsmithgate.
The work is very colourful as it's made of stained glass and lit by lights; similar to a Tiffany lamp.
Sadly the artist Simon Leivers couldn't attend as he committed suicide in May 2012. He was only 45. Not that age has anything to do with it. Simon had some mental health issues and decided to end it all by drowning in the River Trent.
The exhibition is called 'Into the Light' and is on between now and Friday (18th). It's well worth seeing, as the pieces are so colourful, as you can see from the photo below. Some leaflets are available from organisations like the Samaritans promoting the good work that they do.

Colour Rush

Due to our trip away to Chester at the weekend, I'm a bit behind in blogging. But I'm still here, and plan to fill in the gaps during the next couple of days. So do pop back and read all about our adventures in Lancashire.
As the city is quite a tourist attraction for one thing or another, we sat in a good vantage point and were able to watch lots of people going by. Of course I snapped all the interesting people I could see, including this guy, as I was drawn to his brightly coloured T shirt.
He knew I was taking his photo, as he gave a little smirk while I pressed the trigger. He walked on by, but then he stopped and came up to us. We struck up a conversation. He wondered if we lived there, and if we knew of any pub jobs going. We said that we were visitors and we loved his T shirt.
He said that he came from Austria, but had bought the top in Spain and was over here as a sort of missionary. He found it difficult to explain fully how he had ended up there, but knew Nottingham, and had passed through on his way up north.
We wished him luck in his job search. I said that I had seen an advert in a window of an eatery close by, who were looking for a chef. He said that he had done some cooking and would go and see if he could find it.

Shivver Me Timbers

There's a market on at the moment in the old Market Square with a ride range of products on sale. Food and drink are quite prevalent, so too are gifts of every description. From hats to carvings for a wall or garden.
As the sun has been shining proudly these past few days, the traders seem to be doing a roaring trade, with plenty of potential customers milling around and seeing what goodies are on offer.
I thought this warning to pirates was quite amusing, and something that the managers of many companies would love to have on the office or factory wall, just to remind the employees not to get too Bolshy or lazy, let alone demand a pay rise!
