Fashion Parade

I was meant to be heading to the Old Market Square at lunchtime to see what was going on at the Great Notts Show, but I got sidetracked in the Broad Marsh shopping centre.

Walking through the doors I heard some loud music and a big crowd looking at something.  It was a fashion show of some description. It turned out to be clothing designed by students at a local college who have been doing a foundation course in fashion.

Some of the designs were really strange, and something you certainly wouldn't want to wear when you pop off down the supermarket! Experimental I think they call it.

So, Tell Us About Yourself

I read a Tweet earlier today about a fashion show that was taking place at the Lakeside Arts Centre.

So I popped along, to see what it was about, as obviously it could be a possible photo opportunity.

The show was organised by the university and was aimed at students that will be graduating this year. It was designed to show them what sort of clothes to wear both at interview and in the office, once they had landed a job.

There was also a section where they staged three mock interviews. Someone who did averagely, someone who did brilliantly and as my photo shows, someone who didn't do very well because they didn't show any enthusiasm, weren't dressed properly and was a bit rude.

The Bear Essentials

Whilst waiting for the show to begin, I noticed that someone had put their little teddy bear on the red carpet and I bet had taken a photo of it.

The person must have been a photographer; as there were a lot about, as the teddy has a little camera round his neck. I think it might be a special edition Leica, as it doesn't look like the usual big black lump of a Nikon or Canon.

Nott A Fashion Show

A very unusual fashion show took place tonight under the Council House. It was billed as not a fashion show, and although there was plenty of fashion on show, I don't think any of the people involved were models.

There was some music too with a vocalist singing some old songs and this young singer who had a unique fashion style, but cannot remember her name.

The idea was to show off the multi-culturism that exists in Nottingham, and so people from different ethnic groups made an appearance, like this group of young Asian ladies.

Firemen, judges, female footballers all made an appearance, together with two Robin Hoods and these beekeepers who all shared the red carpet.

I also met up with some

Forty Eight Hours Too Late

We are off to Whitby today to see the Goth festival that goes on every year at this small Yorkshire seaside town.

The Goths choose Whitby because it is where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula and where his ship landed after sailing from Transylvania. And so every year, many dress up and head off for a weekend of fun.

Besides the Goths, there's Steampunks, Emos and people who just like dressing up as Victorians.  So sadly that means that we will miss a fashion show of the more usual type in the form of the "48 Hours of Fashion". Which is like a scaled down version of London Fashion Week.

Here's the marquee that's been set up in the Old Market Square, ready for the shows over the two days. This is an improvement on last year, as they just used the two shopping centres and the streets.
