A photo a day from the famous East Midlands city, its surroundings, and wherever the photographic journey takes me.

Model Love
Well all of the shops now have just about done all their Christmas windows.
Marks and Spencer's have done a great job with one of their window displays. It features a table groaning under the weight of food. Something that M&S is famous for.
But I was more interested in the two mannikins that have been posed in a romantic clinch, complete with mistletoe. Their blank faces make them look like robots. Maybe the window designer had been listening to Kraftwerk's Computer Love.

Dreaming Of The Past
Sometimes I will see something in a shop window that will make me stop and take a photo.
Today is a good example, as I saw this display of vintage goods in a charity shop window, during my lunchtime amble around the city centre.
Quite a colourful arrangement of things, and looks influenced by the 1950s.
The only thing is that I'm sure they've put those cat styled glasses on upside down.

Wherever I Lay My Hat, That's My Home
No, this isn't somebody's sitting room or lounge, but the window display of a charity shop situated down in Hockley.
Although the shop describes the stuff that it sells as vintage, rather than second hand or used, it's still at heart a charity shop. But the prices certainly aren't those of a usual charity shop.
It's strange how these sorts of shops have recently rebranded themselves. Something to do with the fascination these days with the 1950s and 60s.
The old is the new, new.

Charlie Claws
Who can resist this cute little crab, smiling out from a window display of a children's clothes shop.
Their theme at the moment is 'the sea'. So there's a pirate ship there, some fishing nets, even a seahorse.
But I was drawn to little Charlie, with his happy face and smiling face.

Dance Me To The End Of Time
Here's a good window display at our local branch of Zara.
The window frame is also interesting, as its a art Nouveau design.
I've shown this building a few times now, as it was one of Boots' first stores in the city.
It's quite a simple, but effective display.

And It's All Yellow
A simple window display highlighting the clearance sale at the Marks & Spencer outlet store at McArthur Glen Retail Park, near Mansfield.
I always call it McArthur Park, after the song from the 1960s, that Donna Summer covered in 1978

A Winter Wonderland
I've never really been a great fan of Christmas. Especially these days, when shops start filling their shelves with cards etc from about the end of August. Far too early. The summer isn't even over yet.
One of the things I do like however, is seeing how the smaller shops decorate their windows. Using their initiative, as they haven't the budgets like the big stores have.
A local charity shop called Treetops has done a lovely job when I saw it on Saturday morning, as part of my weekly shopping trip to Beeston.
They have taken the Victorian theme and dressed some mannequins in old fashioned clothes. Which looks nice, but I was more taken by some tiny Dickensian figures and a snowy townscape.
So cycling home tonight, I thought I would have a look at whether the window display was lit up in any way, so I could take a photo or two, without the glare of the glass. And here's the result. I think the golden balls of bokeh are reflection from the Sainsbury's sign opposite.

A Fishy Business
There is presently a window display in the Tourist Information Office promoting an arts event at Patchings Farm with a metal animal sculptures.
There is a large dog and these fish. I took some photos of the dog, but they didn't come out very well, as there was too many reflections in the glass, but the fish came out quite well.

Bookshop Bonanza
Our local branch of Waterstones has got this wonderful window display to promote it's range of Christmas titles.
The scene almost accurately portrays the area around the Old Market Square, with its range of Victorian buildings, the Council House, and Greens Windmill out at Snienton.
The only thing missing from the diorama is the market stalls, rides and animated snowmen that have taken up residency there at the moment.
I'm not sure whether we are going to get any snow this year, but I don't think it is going to be a white and silky as the one here.
