Wilko Over And Out

There was quite a buzz in Beeston this morning as one of the town's most favourite shops retuned to the Square after an absence of three years.

The original Wilkos, or Wilkinson's to give the store its proper name had to be knocked down to make way for the new tram tracks. The people of Beeston mourned its passing. But at 9am this morning, the Mayoress of Broxtowe cut the ribbon and the long line of people that had formed across the Square all filed in and given sweets, balloons and for the lucky ones, some store vouchers.

Haircut Sir?

A new barbers is set to open in the city centre which looks very trendy indeed.

Gone are the days of a quick short back and sides, and 'something for the weekend'. Back in the day, you could always tell a barber, by the red and white sign outside their shop. Now it is more like an experience, with TVs available, drinks on hand and optional massages.

The best barber joke I know is when a guy is sitting in the chair, and the barber asks how he would like it. He replies "In silence".

Open for Business

Yesterday L'Occitane, the French cosmetics company opened their new store on Bridalsmithgate. I was surprised it had opened so quickly, as I had passed there the day before & the builders were still working on the inside. I was also a little disappointed that I had missed the grand opening by just a few minutes. No one famous cut the ribbon, just a guy whom I took to be a one of the big bosses.
