Wishful Thinking

Gail and I went on a bit of a ten day road trip around Devon and Cornwall a few weeks ago, but I haven't got around to editing many of my photos yet, due to other commitments. So I have two weeks missing from the blog. But hope to start filling in the missing days from tomorrow.

So I thought I would make a bit of a start tonight, with a street scene from St Ives in Cornwall. With it's quaint little streets, and of course the harbour and beaches, meant that I took an awful lot of photos. Gail did too.

One of the highlights was to see our dear friends Stewart & Julie renew their wedding vows after ten years of marriage. Stewart is a photographer and blogger like me, while Julie's main passion is textiles.

A few months we received our invitation to join them in St Ives for their celebration, and as both gail and I have never visited the west country, we jumped at the chance.
It was a lovely sunny day, and everything seemed to go perfectly, right down to the pub meal afterwards.

Wish we were back there, as it's a fabulous place.

A Road Of Two Halves

This is the castle end of Castlegate. The other part is across the way there, but the road was sliced in two when they built the Maid Marian Way in the late 1960s. A couple of other roads; namely Houndsgate & Friar Lane also suffered the same fate.

For many years Maid Marian Way was dubbed the ugliest road in Nottingham, but some planting took place a few years ago and so it doesn't look so harsh now. Although of course Castlegate and the other roads will always be apart.

Street Life

Gail and I went on a little adventure this morning in Nottingham city centre. We participated on a street photography workshop, arranged by Michael Lau with a model and five other photographers.

The idea behind using a model was for those photographers that had not done street photography to become used to shooting on the street.

It's something I do all the time, to varying degrees of success, so I went along for the fun and to shoot Keiron our model for the day.

We went to various places across the city centre; especially the Lace Market and the Old Market Square.

Gail had no problem in going up to strangers and asking if she could take their photo. She seemed to spend more time doing this, than shooting the model.  Some people, including myself were a little bit more reserved about doing this. I actually prefer to shoot strangers in a way that they don't know that they are being photographed, which I think is the essence of street photography.

Gone Up North

Another little jaunt away for the weekend. This time to Bradford in Yorkshire; famous for textiles, a thriving Asian community and the National Media Museum, which moved from London a few years ago.

We arrived late in the afternoon, and found our hotel fairly easily. A small boutique style opposite a lovely big park. Nothing really to write home about though. But adequate for our needs.

After dinner, we went for a stroll around the area. We came across two very large buildings that was a former textile mills. One had been converted into fancy apartments, while sadly the other one called Manningham Mill has fallen into disrepair. But plans are afoot to turn it into a fancy apartment block.

For further details on the history of the building and plans for its future can be found on this Wikipedia page

Here is a bit of an arty shot of a cobbled street that runs at the side of the said building. Something a bit different.

The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Cobbles

Here's a shot of one of the many streets in Rye that are cobbled. They make a nice change from the usual black Tarmac, although they can be a bit rough to walk on. Rye is quite hilly in places, and is full of these little lanes.
