A photo a day from the famous East Midlands city, its surroundings, and wherever the photographic journey takes me.

A Relaxing Time
The annual Light Night festival took place tonight in Nottingham city centre.
I was hopeful that it would be an improvement on last years. There was certainly a lot going on, and it was better than the last one, but for some reason, I didn't find a lot of it exciting.
And also for some unexplained reason, a lot of my shots are in black & white. I have no idea why. Maybe its something to do with the mood I was in.
I began my exploration in the Old Market Square, then walked up to the castle. Being free entry, there was a ginormous queue of people waiting to go in. I thought I couldn't be bothered waiting. so had a stroll down to the Brewhouse Yard area.
On the way back I popped into a gallery for local artists to display their work. I noticed that there were about four artists sketching or painting an oldish man that was posing on a sofa. To add a bit of surrealism, a bowler hat had been suspended near his head.
Not being able to draw or paint, I took his portrait instead.

No Pulling The Wool Over His Eyes
I bet you can tell which is my favourite doctor by this enormous scarf.
Need another clue?
Curly hair, tombstone teeth and a love of jelly babies.
Got it yet?
Yes, that's right Tom Baker. He played the time traveller between 1974 and 1981, and made some of the best stories ever, including Pyramids of Mars, The Brain of Morbius and The Talons of Weng Chiang.
Sadly Tom hung up his trademark scarf and the Doctor turned into Peter Davison. Tom made an appearance last year in the revamped series, playing possibly the Doctor, but wasn't clearly explained as to whether it was or wasn't.

Wrap Up Well When Driving
The city centre was rather quiet at lunchtime, especially in the Old Market Square, so it's back to the shots that I took on Sunday at the classic car show, and this rather enchanting bonnet mascot.
I can't remember which car this old fella came from, with his jaunty hat, handlebar moustache and warm scarf.
I'm sure it;s not a genuine car emblem, but it's a great little addition to what would have been a great looking car.

Alright Young Man
Someone had carefully wrapped a scarf around the neck of the Brian Clough statue in town, to mark the 10th anniversary of his death.
For those that don't know, Brian Clough was the manager of Nottingham Forest football team during the 70s and was quite successful on the field. I'm not a football fan, so I couldn't tell you what and when, but if you're interested, then I'm sure that you can find out through Google.

Who Goes There?
1963 was a momentous year for several reasons; firstly I was born, Kennedy was assassinated and the longest running science fiction series in the world began; the one and only (or 12) Doctor Who.
Today marks his 50th birthday, as it was way back on November 23rd, that the UK tuned in to the BBC and the famous theme tune and swirly intro began for the first time.
A simple story of two nosy teachers who followed one of their pupils called Susan back to her home, as she seemed to know too much about things for the average teenager. And what was home, but a blue Police box standing inside a junk yard.
After meeting Susan's rather grumpy grandfather, they stumble inside this Police box, which for some reason appears to be bigger on the inside than the outside. And so begins the legend of the Tardis, and the Doctor flying around the universe, past, present and future, fighting Daleks, Cybermen, Ice Warriors, the Master and al kinds of madmen intent on world domination.
My introduction to the world of the Doctor began in about 1972, with Jon Pertwee. And I have been a fan ever since. I wonder if you can guess who is my favourite incarnation of the Timelord from my photo clues?
Yes of course it's Tom Baker. Doctor number 4 1974-1981.

Fairground Attraction
As I explained last night, I primarily went to Goose Fair to seek out some interesting people to photograph, but didn't really find any. I did however come across this rather attractive young lady.
It looks like she has just won a cuddly duck. There were lots of cuddly toys on offer for testing one's skills. Hoop-la, shooting, lucky cards etc. I wonder how she won hers?
She was right to wear a scarf, as it was quite cold last night. Still it is the time of year now for cold nights. It's raining while I am writing this. I quite enjoy listening to the sound of the raindrops falling on the windows. Just glad not to be out in it though.
