Making A Racquet

There's a week of tennis matches going on this week at the Nottingham Tennis Centre. As I pass it to and from work, I thought I would pop in and try my hand at a bit of sports photography. Especially as it was free entry and a sunny evening.

A women's doubles match was on when I arrived.  There weren't that many people in the audience, so I had a fair amour of seats to choose from. I tried to find a good seat where I would get some decent shots.

I don't generally really have that much interest in sport, and have not shot any tennis matches before, so I not sure whether they are any good or not. At least they are in focus and show a little bit of action.

Children In Need

Today the UK goes charity crazy with the yearly extravaganza called Children in Need.

Its broadcast by the BBC and events are shown that are happening around the country, as well as special programmes.

The Nottingham Tennis Centre was chosen to be the base for local broadcasts, and of course I just had to pop along to see what was happening.

The lady with the microphone is Anne Davies and she co-presents East Midlands Today; a half hour local news programme that is shown every weekday evening, plus shorter versions late at night and at weekends.

The group with the photograph are members of the Photographers Hub, a local charity that helps disadvantaged youngsters through photography, that has received some funding from the Children in Need charity.

Digital Wimbledon

As promised, here's one of the more striking images from last weeks' computer game fair. A Wii game of tennis, shown on a giant screen. I'm not really interested in computer games, so most of it didn't mean that much to me.

Anyone For Tennis 2?

As I informed you all the other week, Nottingham has just finished playing host to a major mens tennis tournament, before Wimbledon starts next week. Here's a photograph taken from University Boulevard of the spectators watching one of the closing matches of the week long programme. Some have been delayed by the bad weather we have been experiencing. Notice the dark sky and umbrellas. I couldn't really get any closer due to the location of the courts and security.

Anyone For Tennis?

Every June for the past few years, Nottingham hosts a mens tennis tournament as a warm up for Wimbledon. It's normally televised by Sky TV. I must try to pop along after work, to see if there's any shots worth taking.

This gigantic poster was appearing on the side of the Park Plaza Hotel on Maid Marian Way.

3rd June update. As you can see, I've managed to put a photo on. It's not as good as the one I originally wanted to show you, but Blogger is just refusing to publish it.
