Peace And Love

A glorious and sunny evening cycle ride home through Highfields.

Plenty of rowing boats still being enjoyed on the lake. The ice cream van still selling doing a roaring trade from hot students and visitors. Joggers still running, even with the bright sun shining down on them.

Getting towards the other end, I came across two female Asian students posing for photographs being taken by another Asian student. Not with a camera, but with a mobile phone.

So I thought that I would have a go myself. They found it amusing that I would want to take their picture. But we did a little photoshoot, and showed them the results. Which they seemed pleased with.

The girl with the handbag gave me her email address, so that I could send them on to her. Which I have done, as I think it is important to provide photos to people that you have taken their picture of.

I bet when they receive them, they will be excitedly emailing them home to their friends and relations, saying how great things are going in Nottingham and at the university, even if our studies are difficult.

Blossoming Out

The sun seems to have got his hat on these past few days, and that has certainly been good for the cherry blossom in Highfields, as it's bursting into little delicate pink flowers.

The trees always attract lots of people who come to see them. There were quite a few students taking photos tonight on their mobile phones, so they could send them home to show their parents what a lovely place they are studying in.

Tufty

As I failed to take a photo of a squirrel yesterday, I thought I would have another go today, even though I have taken shots of squirrels before.

So I got into the same position, with the same camera and same lens and waited until a grey one started to head towards me.

This time I got my camera ready before the animal got too close and I frightened them off again.

Bingo, he got close, but not too close, and suddenly he decided to pose for me. The way that he held his right paw I think just makes the shot.

Afternoon in the Sun

This is Highfields park. I have shown some parts of the park before, but this is of one end of the lake. It is a large lake and this is the quiet end. The weather this weekend has been good, which is unusual for a bank holiday, as we are nearly always guaranteed to have rain, or at best no sunshine. Gail & I went to a classic car show today, which was fun. I hope you had an enjoyable weekend too.

Flowerpower

Highfields is quite famous for its large collection of rhodendrums. They have been there many years and so are hugh bushes. Here's a flower from one of the plants.

Still Life!

I cycled through Highfields, one of my local parks yesterday, looking for some inspiration, as the sun had come out. After 2 days of continual rain. I came across a few boggy patches, where the water hadn't soaked away & took a picture of the trees reflected in the water. I've enhanced the green in Picasa, to make it look a bit like a Cezanne painting.

Man of Stature

This bust is of Lord Trent, who is usually known of Jesse Boot, the founder of Boots the Chemist; a leading drugs company & retailer. The statue is situated at the main entrance to Highfields park, with the university's Portland Building in the background. As a philanthropist, Jesse bought the land for the park to be created in the 1920's.

Spring Has Sprung

The lighter nights and warmer weather have appeared at long last, and so has the blossom on these trees in Highfields; a fairly large park next to the university. It's a shame that the flowers don't last very long. But then you see the blossom fall to the ground like snow or confetti.
