Facing The Future

Walking through the Lace Market at lunchtime today with a pal from work, we came across a road that was closed due to some building work that was going on.

Whilst my mate was talking to one of the construction workers about what sort of building they were putting up, incidentally some more students flats, I was looking around and what the construction site was like, I noticed this silver face staring at me.

He didn't say anything at all, even when I took his photo. He was a strange looking creature. Not very tall. For a moment I thought he was related to the Cybermen, as he face was silver colour. Then I realised that he was actually the side and handle of an industrial sized wheelie bin!

Horse Power

As many of you may know, this horse is the emblem of Ferrari.

No, it's not mine. I just took it at the car show in the Old Market Square last week.

Airstream Abstract

It's not every day that you see jewellery being sold from a silver Airstream caravan. But that's what I came across today near the Old Market Square.

A man & a woman were selling their wares, but I was more interested in trying to get a shot of the reflections of the buildings in the aluminium.

It was difficult, as there was a blue security van parked opposite, so I was limited to where I could shoot. So I went for a corner angle, so you can see some of the Council House on the left, and a bit of a modern building on the right.

Greased Lightning

After I had finished taking photos at Donington Park last week, I stopped off at the Aeropark museum close to East Midlands Airport.

It's a relatively small open air museum compared to say Hendon, and is right next to one of the airports' runways, but they have quite an impressive collection of military planes, such as a Canberra, a Nimrod, a Vulcan and this prime example of an English Electric Lightning.

Military Bus

Spotted this bus today covered in some promotion for the recent Armed Forces Day celebrations.

I wonder how long the transfers will be kept on before they are removed and some new ones are applied for another event or advertising campaign.

You Rang M'Lord

Gail and I travelled to Grantham today, to have a look at a big superstore called Downtown.

It sells all sorts of things from furniture to clothes and gardening supplies.

We had a look around and I saw a wooden office chair, similar in style to one you would see on an old sailing ship. So I just had to sit in it, as I like the sea and maritime nick-nacks. Although I dislike being in the water. Which is an odd thing to say, being a Pisces.

It was very comfortable. And so I just sat there, whilst Gail had a look at some sofas and tables.

On the lovely wooden desk was this replica telephone, that probably someone under the age of 30 wouldn't recognise.

Although it looked like it was made of metal, it was actually very light and so only had a metal coating. To look really good, it should have been made out of Bakelite.

A Touch Of Sparkle

Since adopting Marmalade and Oscar we don't put up a Christmas tree anymore, as Gail and I are worried that they might try and use it as a scratching post and tinsel and baubles will be scattered everywhere as they push it over.

So here is a shot of a tree and decorations that I took through a window of a bank in Beeston, when Gail and I went for a walk along the High Road when it was dark.

Fashion Through A Lens

Gail and I have spent a very enjoyable evening learning a bit more about shooting models for fashion photography.

We went to Michael Lau's studio in the centre of Nottingham. He had hired semi professional model Kirin Watanabe, to pose for us. She has a very striking and dramatic image. Something that is the style in fashion photography. Not your average girl next door look.

Michael had called the workshop 'Handbags and Heels', as that was what we were focussing on. There were only six of us, so we had plenty of time each to capture some fashionable images, using different backdrops, clothes and props.

I'm not sure whether these two images would make the pages of Vogue or Harper's Bazaar. But I'm quite pleased with them.

Sitting Pretty

Thought I might show something artistic tonight that I took recently at a local art exhibition.

I'm not too sure whether this hat suits the gazelle very well, but at least it will help her to keep cool under that hot African sky.
