A photo a day from the famous East Midlands city, its surroundings, and wherever the photographic journey takes me.

Feeling The Force
It looks like Luke Skywalker has had a hard day, or he's drunk a bit too much at the Mos Eisley Catina.
Anyway, even though he knows how to use the 'Force', Luke isn't going to conquer the evil empire, while he's lying down on the job.

Heart Of Glass
I wonder how long it to to stick all those little bits of glass on this figure of a woman?
She presently sits in the window of a hairdressers on Castle Boulevard.
I wonder how many extra customers she's helped the shop to get?

Who?
Before anyone thinks otherwise, this is not a photoshopped image, or has been digitally manipulated. I'm really not that clever.
I took this one evening a couple of weeks ago. The bricks that make up the water feature in the Old Market Square are a greyish black colour, but the fading sun has turned them a golden colour. The person with the hat and stick, just happened to be standing in the right place so that I managed to get a good silhouette of them. You can just make out the heads of some lads who are enjoying playing in the water.

He Packed His Trunk And Said Goodbye To The Circus
A lot of very large and highly decorated elephants have appeared across the city centre this week.
This distinctly British one stands proudly at the entrance of the Broad Marsh shopping centre.
There is also a stall where you can buy smaller versions of these colourful pachyderms.
Will see if I can track some more down while they are in town and shoot them the only way that all animals shoot be shot. With a camera and not a gun.

Ahoy There Landlubbers
I thought that one of the Christmas presents that I got this year was quite amusing. This little pirate figure.
No, it's not a Lego figure, but an 8gb USB flash drive. The figure itself is made of rubber. You then pull it's head off and that reveals the USB stick. It looks quite odd, as the figure's arms are still connected to the stick.
I expect it to come in quite useful in the future when I am transferring JPEGS around.

The Caged Beauty
We have had the decorator in this week. He has been busy in the hallway and front room. And at 80 years old, still surprisingly spritely. He finished the hall today and so Gail and I have been replacing some of the things that were in there, like the radiator cover and mirror etc.
Sometime ago Gail had bought this cabinet to house a very big candle, and was eager to place it in the hallway. Alas, she hasn't yet found a candle that she likes or is big enough, and so decided to put one of her large Betty Boop collectable figures in there instead.

Lady In Waiting
This rather elegant figurine was on offer at a shop that was closing down. She's clearly designed in the 1920s style; short bob haircut and art deco influence dress.
Although it is very pretty to look at and was probably a bargain price, I didn't splash out on it. Mainly because we wouldn't have anywhere to put it, as tops of furniture, display cabinets and window sills are full up already.

Where Eagles Dare

St Peter's Church had an open day today as part of the country's heritage weekend. This is where people can visit buildings that aren't usually open to the public, or have thrown their doors open wider than normally.
I have been in before, a few years ago, and then I only had my little Canon point & shoot. This time I had my Nikon, and so had a good look round for something that caught my eye.
This lectern was an obvious choice. The golden eagle is a work of art and is probably very heavy.
I took a fair few photos of different things, including carvings and stained glass windows. Some of which may appear on here sooner or later.
