Hell's Kitchen

I'm not really a fan of Halloween & I certainly don't believe in the imported American custom that is Trick or Treat. So I was pondering over what to put on as today's photo. Then I saw the window display of our local Lakeland's, and thought what else does this evening mean to people; eating & drinking of course

Although adults, too, have fun, it's really for the children who delight me with their costumes and beautiful faces.

Following is a quote from Wikipedia "The National Confectioners Association reported in 2005 that 80 percent of adults in America planned to give out candy to trick-or-treaters, and that 93 percent of children planned to go trick-or-treating."

But I can tell you from personal experience that the number of trick-or-treaters has fallen off dramatically (due to safety issues) and that most of the candy is eaten be co-workers in the office the day after Halloween.

I grew up in London and there was no celebration of Halloween, though I have a shadowy memory of having been taught something about the history of All Hallows Eve at elementary school and insisting on my (fortunately sculpturally talented) father carve a turnip or parsnip into a jack o' lantern. It must have been a large one.

I gather trick-or-treating is making its way across the Atlantic, but my 94 year-old aunt, who is not necessarily the most reliable of witnesses, says that most of the children are not in costume and ask for money not sweets. Is that true?

Saturday was the adults turn at the Parade of the Lost Souls. Tuesday night is for the kids.
At my office all the inside office staff came in costume and had pizza for lunch. Obviously too embarassed to go to the restaurants. I noticed the energy was high and they were working flat out and having fun.
