World Photoblog Theme Day

A new year, a new theme day. Today's picture is what I consider portrays the essence of Nottingham from the 195 I have taken this year. It's from October 6, and shows the outlaw Robin Hood; the main emblem of the city.

A number of daily photo sites from across the world are participating in this theme day, so if you have the time, please visit them all. Don't forget to leave a comment, as we all welcome feedback about our work.

In addition to showing Robin Hood from yesterday and today your photo also shows a photographer. Very appropriate for a photo blog best of the year photo.

  3. O dear me, you would go and choose this one wouldn't you? For me it is the epitomy of the survival and manipulation of myth over reality.
Without writing an essay I'll just say that I am a paid-up member of the school of thought which says Robin Hood was a Yorkshire from Wakefield, outlawed after the battle of Boroughbridge in 1322 who lived in the forest of Barnsdale. The Nottingham legend is a later fabrication.

    Have a happy 2007 anyway!

There is so much going on in this fun shot. Sorry Gerald, but I'm a dreamer and am going to stick with the legend! LOL

    Have a great 2007

Gerald's admonitions about myth and reality not withstanding, I see a statue and two living beings in Nottingham celebrating the story, probably the only touchstone Americans like myself have for Nottingham, having grown up on the television series with the catchy theme song that went, "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen; Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men; feared by the rich, loved by the good, Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood." And in the series, the Sheriff of Nottingham was a sly villian most fowl. I think. I was very young. Love your photo and getting to know a bit about the modern realities of Nottingham through your lens. May you and Gail's happiness increase in 2007, after your memorable year and many travels. Cheers,
    -Kim

Now I've learned something else about Robin Hood that I never knew! Great photo whether the legend is true or not (it is a LEGEND, after all!) Happy New Year - here's to more wonderful photos and more new friends in 2007.

Greald may be right and I can say that Robin never looked an ounce like Kevin Costner. Happy New Year!

Hey, this is great. I'm hoping to get up to Nottingham for the fair in the summertime (August, I believe). Was told not to miss it. Was I misled?
