Pictures from the Past

As part of the celebrations for the opening of the new square, the council are running an exhibition showing old photographs of the city. They are also inviting members of the public to bring their own snaps in to display. Here's an example of some photos on offer. The highlights here are comedians Morecambe & Wise and Carry On actor Sid James messing about on Raleigh bicycles.

I think this is an excellent idea. I took hundreds of photos in Sendai, Japan in 1953 and they are now in a museum over there and are used as a reference library for the Japanese to learn how their city looked during the reconstruction period.

  2. Just think: in 50 years you'll be able to enter your blog.

I have here, right in the room I am typing this in, one of the last Nottingham made Raleighs - 'Pioneer Classic'. Bought it in Wimborne Minster in 1991 and shipped it home when we returned. I still love riding it, though I replaced the seat with a gel one, and it doesn't look very groovy these days. . .
