Treemendous

Here's a young sapling that's growing out of a wall. I don't know how, as there isn't any soil up there. But it seems to be doing quite well, and gently blowing in the breeze.
I wonder how long it will remain there before the building's owners pull it out?

It must be a miracle. You could probably sell it on E-bay or something like that. I have no idea how it took root in the mortar joint. We have maple seeds that sprout and grow in eve spouting on homes but when hot weather comes around and dries up the water in the spouting the trees usually die.

  3. The tree is a Buddleia or "Butterfly Tree" it will grow just about anywhere including in the mortar joints of walls. You can also see it on bits of waste ground and along railway lines. The flower is usually a deep blue to mauve colour and has a strong honey like smell. Butterflies particularly like the nectar, hence the name "Butterfly Tree".
