No Skidding!
Yesterday was another awful day, full of rain and cold winds. The ice rink was deserted, as people either stayed in their offices, or just popped to the shops. So this guy on his ice smoothing machine had the whole of the rink to himself. I don't know if he was actually working, or just doing something to pass the boredom.

Whatever he's doing it looks fun to drive!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post and shot GailMan.
ReplyDeleteLooks fun too.
slowly catching up and recovering
New Steam post up now.
Love the slogans on the side of the machine, grrrreat!
ReplyDeletehahaha, marley's right! he looks like he's enjoying his brrrrrilliant career too!
ReplyDeleteThe machine is called a 'Zamboni'. It emits a spray of water and brushes it. The Zamboni on the outdoor rink in Nottingham is used after every 1 hour period of skating to freshen up the surface for the next session.
ReplyDeleteIn hockey, the Zamboni is used between each period of play to ensure a nice smooth surface for the skaters.
Before Zamboni's the Canadian custom was to use a tractor or some other such utility vehicle to spray water from the back and brush it smooth.
LOOKS FUN! oh sorry didn't mean to shout lol.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind taking a spin in that!
ReplyDeleteOur ice rink has now been completely dismantled and will have to wait til November to see it again.
