Reach For The Sky
This piece of art is called "Aspire" and has recently been erected in the university's Jubilee Campus. A mystery donor paid the £800k for it. Someone who obviously has more money than sense, as I don't think it looks particularly striking, and I'm sure the money could be better spent on something more exciting and useful. You can find out more about it here.
Locals have nicknamed it the egg whisk!

I'v seen it a couple of times when I'v gone past it on the bus and I have wondered what it was. My boyfriend didn't even know and he's a student at the uni!!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on the news, and remember swearing a lot about the watse of money that could be used to build something realy out there, like ooh a hospital, or hosuing. Egg whisk, if only it was as useful.
ReplyDeletei definitely agree! it's not the most attracting looking thing...and yes, the money could've definitely been spent on something better and useful.
ReplyDeletethat's alot of money for the sake of a pun, oh well, up'n at 'em eh.
ReplyDeleteI think this could be the biggest waste of money for art that I've seen. It isn't even nice to look at :(
ReplyDeleteit's nothing if not in-spire-rational.

I agree - I'm all for spending money on art if it's any good, but this looks distinctly uninspiring, and the money could definitely have been spent on something more useful.
