Robin And His Not That Merry Men

Besides the really big names like Woolworth going under, the recession is also affecting small companies like our Robin Hood visitors centre. It's future is in doubt, as the owners owe a lot of back rent and visitor numbers are down. There has also been a fair bit of criticism about the attraction, as it's a bit tired looking, not very attractive and in the wrong place. it isn't too far away from the castle, but not in a very central location. I'll let you make up your own mind from my picture on whether it's somewhere you'd like to pay a visit.

  1. absolutely the wrong location - by about 50 miles!

  2. Right city - wrong area maybe.

  3. It doesn't really shout 'Heritage' at me. Its a shame that so many small places are under threat.

  4. I guess it depends what they have inside. I would like to think that somewhere in Nottingham there should be such an attraction!

  5. It is situated nicely for being close to the Castle, but very badly situated in terms of "display".

And yes, it looks very "tired". I don't think it's changed much in years.

My impression is that Nottingham in general fails entirely to truly co-ordinate the promotion of such attractions.

  6. It really does need a makeover or relocation. Surely this place is a must for visitors, the old myths and legends.

  7. Hi,

I visited the UK for the first time last may. 5 of us from the US and 1 Canadian made the trip. For the limited time we were there we wanted to see as much Robin Hood related sites as possible. We went to The Tales of Robin Hood attraction... The "ride" itself was very underwhelming at best. The effects were not very well done - being very dated indeed. We laughed when we shouldn't have been laughing! The gift shop is very good and "museum" was decent. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly... BUT it does need a serious updating.. I hope it can survive the downturn in the economy.
