Rock And Roll
This large lump of sandstone is called the Hemlock Stone and is situated in a park at Bramcote. There are quite a few myths of how it arrived there, the best being that it was thrown by a giant from Ireland. Another suggests that it was used by druids. Today it is often used to let off fireworks from and every year locals gather in the park opposite to produce the 'Hemlock Happening'.

Thrown from Ireland, sounds like my rock. It's cool however it ended up there. Gary may shed some light, he was a geologist. No, really.
ReplyDeleteI like the giant from Ireland version better :)
ReplyDeleteFascinating colors! That black is natural, and not a result of the fireworks?
Aliens. Definitely aliens.
ReplyDeleteWhen Ian was at his grandmother's funeral sometime back, it came to light that as a girl she climbed to the top of the Hemlock Stone and carved her name in it. Not sure if the weather would have erroded this by now but one reason why in these days of public safety there are the railings at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteRock-on Gailsman.
ReplyDeleteI like the giant story!
