Postal Order

Another demonstration today. The Old Market Square is getting quite the place for demos. Not quite Tienanmen Square, although there was a tank there the other year. Today's protest was about the proposed privatisation of the Royal Mail. So many post offices have closed over the last few years. This has had a devastating effect on some communities, as not only did people buy the usual stamps etc, but they also doubled as a grocery store and a meeting place. Another little bit of England gone forever.

  1. Sigh. It's inevitable given the internet and even cellphone capabilities (I can text my brothers in the US). I think postal services all over the world are having a difficult time staying in the black. But I think that's precisely why it shouldn't be privatized — small communities in rural areas would be the first to suffer from that move.

  2. Its funny you should post this today - of all days.
Next door to us has been up for sale quite a while and the daughter and son visit where there Mother lived - before she passed away, Today they visited and bought round to us all our mail that had been posted in that door altho all the mail had our number on and the house empty - the post man had posted our mail in there for all of last week.
My birthday cards, and 2 small presents, but to top it all info for our next holidays.
Tried phoning to complain, all we got was 5 times to press numbers to reach the right dept-only to find that no-one was available to take our call.10 minutes it took in all.

Bet you wished you had not posted this today GM.lol
