Pulling Faces

Work has now begun in turning the old Tales of Robin Hood tourist attraction on Maid Marian Way into a supermarket. A Tesco no less. As if there isn't enough of them in the city centre already. At the last count there were six. Far too many for one city centre I think. For various reasons I am not a fan of the supermarket chain. Besides trying to dominate the country, if not the world, the worst is not paying farmers and producers a decent rate for their products.

  2. There I was think that this was a heavy night at the local Wetherspoons!
Yep, I too am a believer that big does not automatically mean beautiful. But then nobody said they cared about their suppliers. I had a long chat with a farmer at the Yorkshire show in the summer, he would not deal with them. We who care about what we eat and where it comes from have all heard the stories, sadly I think they are mostly true. One of this farmers neighbours got the run around over supplying them with cauliflowers, on the day they were due to be shipped out of the farm they said sorry but they had got them from Poland cheaper. He ploughed them into the field! I would have got as trailer and parked outside the nearest store giving them away. I would have explained to the papers about it too. Part of the problem is the conspiracy of silence. Pity is I know the national press photographers that would love a story like that.
